Breaking News!

Hello again,

So we just finished our service orientation. Basically a time to discuss the money that we are given to pay for food, hosting, and transportation and a time to talk about hopes, expectations, and worries by completing collages. Anyways, Karen, our community learning coordinator, happened to mention in a sidenote that we now have host families! Apparently the institution is remodeling its library and thus does not have room for us, or something. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic opportunity and change and I think it will make my time in Nebaj even better by living with a Mayan family, it's just hard because all of us had created the mindset that we would be living in the institution, hanging out all night and playing games, we would be together pretty much the whole time, and now all of this is different. For those of you who know me well, I have a hard time changing mindsets and with change in general usually, so I'm pretty stressed out right now, but I'll be fine. Now I have no clue what to expect, with having a host family, needing to walk to the institution everyday (yay!), trying to connect with Ben and Jenna, but still connecting with my host family, what I'll be doing, etc. Karen didn't have any information on any of this, and said it's pretty much up to the organization. So, I'm also not very good at going with the flow and not knowing anything about what I'm getting into. Needless to say I don't think I'll be sleeping much tonight, but I am excited for how much of a learning and growing opportunity this is and will be for me. So, that's about all I know as of now. I'm getting plopped on a bus tomorrow at 5 am with the limited knowledge that "someone will be there to meet you in Nebaj." And so the adventure begins. Wish me luck!

Love,
Rachel
